Julia Fiona Roberts born to Betty Lou Bredemus (mother) and Walter Grady Roberts on October 28 the 28th of October, 1967. Roberts is part of the fourth generation of Robertses who live in the Atlanta area beginning with her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts a farmer. Early on, her father became interested in theater. He was a part of the Emory University campus in 1952 and also in a variety of productions around Atlanta. In 1953, he enlisted in the Air Force and while stationed at Biloxi in Mississippi acted in a play with Betty Lou Bredemus. In 1955, the couple married and in 1956 their child Eric Anthony was born. Walter went to Tulane University New Orleans Louisiana after he left the Airforce in 1957. Walter was employed by Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. In 1960, the family relocated to Decatur Georgia. Walter as well as Betty Lou financed their own production of a Sunday morning show for children, Bum Bum and His Buddies. Later that year they founded the Actors and Writers Workshop which operated for six years. In 1965, they welcomed two more children into their lives: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
